Week 4 paragraph

I am sad to say that this week I did not make it to class. Due to children sickness & pains from moving over the weekend, I was not able to attend. At least during this week, I was able to get a chance to get caught up on what I was behind on. Now I just need to locate my camera in the many boxes I still have to unpack, in order to get my freesigning videos up. Thank you to all for your patience.

Week 3 paragraph

This week has been the most disturbing week for me. We learned about how the deaf are being discriminated against in so many ways. How can a person be considered an equal when we as a culture won't even give that person the fundamental right of using the language of their choice? The United States caters to those who are from outside of the country and would NEVER expect them to give up their native language. Yet I have found that many schools here are not even giving the opportunity for those who are deaf to even learn ASL. This is really disturbing to me. I would hate to see this wonderful language go exticnt over ignorance on the part of many. I LOVE learning ASL and will do everything in my power to voice my opinion of freedom of speech/languages!!!

Week 2 Paragraph

In week two we learned more about using classifiers by drawing LEGO robots and then having to describe them to our partner. This was quite a bit of fun. I found that even though I may not have known the true sign for something, I was able to use my classifiers to explain what I needed to get across. More and more I  am finding that ASL and classifiers go hand in hand. One needs the classifiers in order to properly get the message across. Carl also told us more stories about LEGO people. It was fun watching him do the story and realizing how much I truly was understanding. It is great to see how much I am learning!

Week 1 Paragraph

During week one in ASL 102, two classes combined and learning was not as easy as I thought it would be. Professor Carl stressed the emphasis of using classifiers when signing as well as signing spaces. I have found that ASL looks more natural when using the full range of signing spaces. This is one area that I know I need to practice more on.

ASL 102- Winter term

I am very excited to be continuing with my ASL learning. I feel I was able to learn quite a bit during the first term and very excited for this next term. Although my signing is still very choppy, I do feel that I am beginning to understand the main fundamentals of signing. Here's to an exciting new term and some more "food" for my brain! :-)
